Louis Wolowski
1810 – 1876
Wolowski was born in Poland but his family fled to France after the 1830 revolution. He became a French citizen and taught law and economics in Paris. He took the Chair of Industrial Law in 1839 at the Conservatoire des arts et métiers and in 1864 the Chair of Industrial Economics.

Wolowski was an active member of the Free Trade Association (1846). From 1866-67 he was the President of the Académie des sciences morales et politiques. He wrote on many topics including banking, free trade, and tariff policy.
