While at UT Dallas, he was the inaugural Dean of the Hobson Wildenthal Honors College (2014-2021), Inaugural Director of the Collegium V Honors Program (1998-2014), and Associate Provost (2008-2021). He held the Mary McDermott Cook Chair in the Hobson Wildenthal Honors College from 2018-2021. He is the author or editor of 10 books in American politics and political theory, including the best-selling textbook Governing Texas (W.W. Norton) now in its 7th edition. Other publications include essays on the work of John Locke, David Hume, and Adam Smith.
