Michael J. Douma is an Associate Professor at the Georgetown University McDonough School of Business, where he is the Director of the Institute for the Study of Markets and Ethics.

He is the author of four books, including the forthcoming The Slow Death of Slavery in Dutch New York with Cambridge University Press 2024. He is also the editor of four books. His writings have appeared in the New York Times, The Journal of Early American History, Civil War History, Law and History Review, and the Journal of American Ethnic History, among other places. His research interests include American ethnic and immigration history, slavery, and the Dutch World. He routinely teaches a course on the history of globalization in a joint program with the Georgetown Business School and School of Foreign Service. He is currently also the book reviews editor for the Journal of Markets & Morality and a guest lecturer in the Dutch language at the Reformed Theological Seminary in Tyson’s Corner, Virginia. He earned a B.A. from Hope College, a Ph.D. in history from Florida State University and was a Fulbright scholar in the Netherlands.
